Networking is a Grind (do it anyway)

The grind of networking is worth the future outcomes. Whether you are starting your own business or trying to find work in wacky-wonky 2024, quality networking will elevate your vision and open new opportunity.

I call it a grind because it is a lot of work, and it doesn't always work out as planned. Many times, it is for the better, but sometimes, we can be deeply disappointed in a networking experience.

So we procrastinate doing it. We avoid the potential for negative emotions or experiences. Starting a business or looking for a job is hard enough as it is; why add more pain to it? Because overall, hard work pays off. The grind of networking is focused on long-term results, not usually immediate success.

Networking with a curious mindset and a willingness to exchange in diversity of thought is a winning combination.

Strategy: Aim for quality

Quality networking means seeking generous people who give of their time and energy. you can't control this goal but you can aim for it. There are many incredible people who want to help you get connected to others, and possibly open the door to future opportunities. You have to be willing to ask. Also, when you ask, look for diversity of thought. Ask for the unexpected connection, and then expect to learn. Persevere to find these experiences. Each exchange is a small experiment worth the 15 - 30 minutes of time.

Mindset: Long term, future focused

Networking success is more circular than linear. Knowing this as you seek quality people helps you persist with the ups and downs of networking activity. The things not in your control. When you are let down, and you will be, these people are not bad. They are simply not who you need right now. A better opportunity is out there. Be willing.
