It’s About Time: Ironman 70.3 Hawaii

“You need an entirely new race experience. Just do it.”

“But–”

“Don’t text or call until you can show me a receipt that you bought the race entry.”

“Huhhh.”

A good friend, who happens to be a Breakthrough Master Coach like me, served it up to me well last year. I had just missed my fourth Ironman triathlon (yes, the full one) due to injury. Now my Ironman completion record slid to a miserable 6 and 4. You can read about what happened in my 2017 race retrospective.

She was right. Be a victim forever, or make a change.

I need to go after it. No one is going to do it for me. I’m going to have an experience I’ve always wanted, but never allowed myself to have. I’ve been to the Big Island nine times (!) and never got a chance to ride my bike there. It drove me crazy, made me sad, but family priorities always won out, as I write about in The Competitor in Me series.

That’s about to change. Representing my IRaceLikeAGirl team, I’m racing Ironman 70.3 Hawaii, also fondly known as Honu 70.3 on June 2nd, and I can’t wait…to let go of the injuries and missed races of the past, and to embrace the present with energy and positivity.

Malama ko aloha.

Keep your love.
